Sinusitis

This is a condition involving inflammation or an infection of the sinuses. The patient having sinusitis may have thick nasal mucous, pain in the face due to sinus pressure and a plugged, congested nose. Other symptoms this patient may experience may include headaches, fever, a temporary poor ability to smell, coughing and a sore throat.

Physiotherapists have many treatment modalities for this condition. The goals of treating this condition will be to alleviate the pressured, congested feeling in the face and nose, to assist the patient in clearing the nasal passages and to loosen up stubborn mucous that have accumulated in the sinuses. We may use ultrasound therapy, short wave diathermy, a saline mix in a Rhinoflow machine, percussions to the chest only if needed and if needed craniosacral techniques to assist in sinusoid drainage.
